When is the last time you did something for the first time ? I was asked by my buddy just now again do I have any alien story. Alien story is coined by us and we used it personally as any story that makes it to the headlines of our own bulletin. For example : An unexpected person called today or that one of us have bumped into a common friend that we have not met for a super long time. You know things like that.

Alien story makes our lives more meaningful in a sense. Ironically it does. If life goes by just normally it is always so mundane and boring. The so called meaning comes in when we are experiencing something fresh. Maybe to a begger his alien story is someone gave him a 100 dollar note. Or maybe not there after because he needs something more alien or should i say more unexpected like someone passing him a lottery ticket.

We get more and more jaded as we experience life. As a child a lot of things are so facinating to us. But as we experience more and see more our senses gets numb. Our definition of extreme goes more extreme.

Is it good to us ? Some can say that it makes us more creative and more open to “wierd ” things. Which i have to agree is good to us. It has personally made me a more tolerant person. I have a wide scope of friends. I can accept many ideas and see it from their point of view as compared to maybe any tom dick and harry. But I do also understand that it gently breaks me away from the ability of feeling “normal”. No longer am i a good yard stick to gauge what a normal person will be able to feel. I may say things so normal to me but disgust others. I may ask questions that seem so normal to me and yet easily scoffed or despise by others.

So next time when someone comes to you and ask ” How is your day ? ” Would you choose to answer him in a more interesting way ? Surprise him and surprise yourself. With enough practise maybe you will get to understand more why i always as people ” Do you love your girl/boy friend ? ”

It’s a buck and a quarter, you get a nice big bagel with thick cheese cream on it. It makes sure you will get sick of it before the last bite. But it is very filling and fresh. When i had my share of stay as a New Yorker I used to buy this for breakfast. Plentiful Bagel carts around selling it. Strewn around the streets of New York amongst the tall old buildings. You will find one in even the tighest street corner.

I guess it is to me more than the taste of the cream cheese and the bagel. It’s the culture that i am biting into that made it taste good. Even when the world is progressing fundamentally these little carts remained the same through out the years serving the changing population with the same good old stuffs. If there is one last thing that will change it will be the bagel carts.

Bring me to New York now. Let me be part of this city. When i bite into the memories of the bagel let me feel the whole thing again. Let me remember it once again.

Superficially Saying

Channel U SuperStar. Imagine the ploy. Wei Lian won. Lets work the equation backwards here. So we have Shi Xin Hui and Jun Yang both knocked out leaving Wei Lian and Kelly to fight it out. Agreement for the last four super stars is that Play Music and Universal will both sign two singers one of each sex. Which means Wei Lian will definitely be in the same company as Xin Hui and Jun Yang will be with Kelly. What a nice ploy. The motive is obvious here. Play Music seems to have a greater say in this competition and they have pre-chosen who they want and play the results. Making Wei Lian the winner is a fairy tale ending is nothing more than creating a national topic and symbol. Just one more easy target for next years national day song artist. Wei Lian will pick up as the ambassador of the mishaps and handicapped people. You can see by now how things will fall in place. So well hidden openly in front of us.

How about Xin Hui the poor Malaysian girl who really showed more superstar quality than Kelly. A contract with universal. What happens after? My guess is that she will have it cut and release after Kelly does all her market positioning. By then the superstar fever is gone and so will be Xin Hui’s album sales. Channel U may just be kind enough to squeeze out a hosting position for her or maybe an acting role.

Jun Yang on the other hand may get a little more help and perhaps be able to shine a little longer with Kelly. A duet perhaps. Anyway he is good material for gossip ( think Candyce). So we can say that he will run a long way with some gossips.

Wei Lian ah Wei Lian … I am not sure. I think one thing I am sure is that Singapore created Wei Lian. We made a joke out of him and now he become a “topic” more than just a humble busker. We lost a genuine busker in exchange for a topic that we can all talk about. I wonder does Wei Lian know this? Can he see it (no pun intended) ? There is an up and coming SuperHost show by Channel U. Very interesting to see what comes out of it. Will another Wei Lian happen again ? I bet not. One is more than enough.
